Gray matter alterations in tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease after MRgFUS thalamotomy are correlated with tremor improvement: a pilot study

چکیده
Background: Regional differences in gray matter volume (GMV) have been reported to be a reliable marker for diagnosing Parkinson’s disease (PD). This study aimed explore the clinical value of GMV assess magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy as treatment tremor-dominant PD (TDPD).

Immediate and Longitudinal Alterations of Functional Networks after Thalamotomy in Essential Tremor
Thalamotomy at the ventralis intermedius nucleus has been an effective treatment method for essential tremor, but how the brain network changes immediately responding to this deliberate lesion and then reorganizes afterwards are not clear. Taking advantage of a non-cranium-opening MRI-guided focused ultrasound ablation technique, we investigated functional network changes due to a focal lesion....
متن کاملVim thalamotomy in a patient with Holmes’ tremor and palatal tremor - Pathophysiological considerations
BACKGROUND We peformed a ventral intermediate nucleus (Vim) thalamotomy in a patient with Holmes' tremor and palatal tremor. The frequencies of these movement disorders were 4 Hz and 3 Hz, respectively. Vim thalamotomy stopped the Holmes' tremor but not the palatal tremor. Our observations suggest different mechanisms for these two involuntary movements. CASE PRESENTATION A 57-arm 11 months a...
متن کاملTremor-correlated cortical activity in essential tremor.
BACKGROUND In patients with parkinsonian resting tremor, tremor-correlated activity in the contralateral sensorimotor cortex has been studied by both magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG). In essential tremor, MEG failed to detect cortical involvement. The objective of this study was to investigate whether EEG recording can reveal tremor-correlated cortical activity in p...
متن کاملAtaxic arm movements after thalamotomy for Parkinsonian tremor.
Voluntary finger-nose movements of the arm were analysed in six patients undergoing stereotaxic nucleus ventralis intermedius thalamotomy for relief of severe Parkinsonian tremor. In all cases thalamotomy acutely abolished tremor in the contralateral arm. In the early postoperative phase, ataxia of the arm contralateral to the operated side was also seen. Ataxia was transient, lasting between 7...
متن کاملMental Status Test Scores are Inversely Correlated with Tremor Severity: A Study of 161 Elderly Essential Tremor Cases
BACKGROUND There is an increasing awareness that patients with essential tremor (ET) may exhibit non-motor features, including cognitive dysfunction. Yet there are surprisingly few data in ET on the association, if any, between cognitive dysfunction and motor dysfunction (i.e., tremor severity). Establishing links between the cognitive and motor features of ET would imply that the two share a c...
